Recent 12c with no serial.
Message #1 Posted by Pal G. on 3 Nov 2006, 3:46 p.m.

Greetings,

I just received a 12c from my brother. I traded a Palm C500 for it. The 12c he sent me is mint, but it has no serial number. The device says "Made in China" and it takes one cr2032 battery.

He sent me NO book or other packaging. He bartered for the calculator. All I have is the calc and the case.

Should this device have a serial? My 50g has a sticker. How are the latest 12c's shipped?

Thanks, Pal

By the way; Gene - if you're reading this - I've been having a blast learning the 12c with the online HP (flash) learning modules. (I downloaded all of the PDFs as well). Thanks, and I hope this project is still ongoing.

Hi Pal. I also have a "Made in China" 12c that has no serial number. On the bottom of the calculator, the help on the Date function includes references to 1998, 1999 and 2000.

Regards,

John

Recent 12c's and 12cp's have stickers, and if one peels off the sticker, voila'.

And, thanks for the kind words on the learning modules...that was a fun time making them. Luiz here did many/most of the written PDFs for the 12c.

Thank you for the confirmation, John.

I'm curious. Based on your observation, should I assume HP (manufacturing) updates the back faceplate silkscreen each year!?

This is unfortunate. I predict we will see many complaints from collectors in about twenty years!

Thank you both for the information. Now back to the 12c training modules...

Regards, Pal

Probably not each year. My (revised) 12cp has examples from 2004/2005.
