A little off topic. Where to buy a 50G?
Message #1 Posted by Harald on 2 Nov 2006, 4:49 p.m.

I am currently in the States on a business trip. Calculators a really a lot cheaper here than they are back in Europe. And so I would like to buy a 50G while I'm here. I do not have a credit card and hence I can't buy one online. Wich stores carry those. I have found a number of stores that do HP calculators, but non of them had the 50G.

Thanks for your help, Harald

Harald,

Welcome to the US! I think your best chance of finding a 50G will be at Fry's Electronics. I believe they are in most major cities. Actually, I'm not aware of ANY OTHER B&M (brick and mortar) stores that carry it, except maybe J & R Electronics in New York. What area(s) of the country will you be traveling?

Enjoy your stay, and let us know if you find one. Matt

You can always try a college/university book store. I found one at the Yale text book store in New Haven, Conn.

Wal-mart has the 50G listed on their website for US$136, and may be available in their stores as well.

Thanks to all of you! I am in St. Louis, MO. I will be driving arround on the weekends (this weekend I visit a friend in Atlanta), but during the week I am at work and don't have much time to travel.

Thanks again, Harald

Hey, I made the same daylong drive -- St Louis to Atlanta -- in summer 1987. Helpful tip: When advising of an expected arrival time, don't forget about the time-zone change...

Fry's Electronics would be the place when in Atlanta - it's way north of the city in some out of the way mall IIRC.

The Fry's Electronics near Atlanta is next to Gwinnett Place Mall, which is northeast of Atlanta by about 25 miles. However, they did not have the 50G in stock when I was there last week. There is a place called Engineer's Bookstore near the Georgia Tech campus in downtown Atlanta. They do have the 50G in stock at $175.

Best regards, Don

It appears France doesn't yet have the 50G.

Unfortunately HP calculators are very difficult to find in France even when officially distributed. The major french store "la FNAC" only sell the business calculators. What a shame for HP!

There is a place to get it in France : "Maubert Electronic". The storekeeper is a very nice person, but she expects to shut off all activity in the near future, so act quickly (may be too late). If you can, get there in person and see the most incredible place for an HP calculator collector !! And please behave with due **respect**. Enough said...
