Re: Pioneer model variations Message #6 Posted by Karl Schneider on 16 Mar 2006, 2:16 a.m., in response to message #5 by Randy
Hello, Randy --
About a month ago, I "completed" my collection of the Pioneer series (one each of the 11 models), amassed over four years mostly through eBay or eBay-inspired prices. I had already "completed" my collection of the HP-41 series and the Voyager series in a similar manner.
Here are the Pioneers I have:
Model Origin Color Bezel Year
10B Singapore Brown Step 1993
14B USA Brown Flat 1989 50th Anniversary
17B USA Brown Flat 1988
17Bii Singapore Brown Step 1993
20S Indonesia Brown Step 1997
21S USA Brown Step 1989
22S USA Brown Flat 1988
27S Singapore Brown Flat 1990
32S Singapore Brown Step 1990
32Sii Indonesia Black Step 2001
42S Singapore Brown Flat 1989

Also - I've never seen a 21S in the early flat bezel model - anybody ever see one?
My 21S is the earliest recessed ("step") bezel model in the list. Maybe it was a pilot project for the redesign.
Note that I have two 1990 Singapore-made units. One is a "step" 32S; the other is a "flat" 27S -- which is not like either of yours.
Just curious: Is your early USA-made 32Sii one with the fraction-calculation bug? If so, can you give an example? I've found the (sans bug) fraction-conversion capability of the HP-32II to be quite impressive, and would like to know how it was implemented. Only a massive look-up table in ROM would seem feasible, in order to give quick answers.
Thanks,
-- KS
