Need gear for HP-97
Message #1 Posted by Mike Mander on 25 Feb 2006, 3:55 p.m.

Hello,

Does anyone have any idea where I might be able to buy a new nylon gear for the printer mechanism in an HP-97? A photo...

I need the yellow/orange nylon gear - as you can see, it is missing some teeth. I had just bought a new battery pack and an owner's manual off eBay and was planning on opening it to repair the card reader when the printer stopped working too. Stripped gear - bummer...

Does anyone have a junk HP-97 for sale that might still have an intact gear?

Thanks for the help...

Regards, Mike Mander

You've gotta make your own. MoHPC article how-to

IMO, there is no such thing as a junk 97, they're all worth something. Most units have the same gear and they're just as prone to fail as the one you have. A few had a black nylon part that didn't shear so easily but those are a needle in a haystack. Make the aluminum replacement and be done with it.

Thanks for the link! You do have a point about the 97... unless one was thoroughly destroyed, it would always still be worth something for parts!

Should have known there would already be some useful info on this website. Sorry for not searching beforehand. My, as they say, bad. Hopefully the companies mentioned still have these parts and ship to Canada. Will try to contact them next week.

If nothing else, the article gives me the gear's specifications and I can hunt around locally for something similar.

Cheers! Mike Mander

I wonder whether the HP-41 printers (HP-82143A or HP-82162A) use the same gear. If so, they are both newer and easy to find on eBay.

Has anybody checked this?

Just looked at a 43A, they are completely different using an o-ring drive belt instead of a gear.

I think I have a gear like that somewhere in my parts box. I will look tomorrow, let you know, If it is there I will send it to you.

Hi Ronald,

Who are you offering to send the gear to? ;-) It was I (Mike Mander) who made the original inquiry at the top of this thread...

However, I certainly would not expect a valuable part like this for nothing of course. If you do find it in your parts bin, and are offering it to me (not sure if you were since your message wasn't in direct reply to my original inquiry) then let me know how much...

Regards, Mike Mander
