Looking for volunteers to test Free42 Decimal
Message #1 Posted by Thomas Okken on 20 Feb 2006, 5:44 p.m.

Hi all,

Free42 version 1.4, featuring decimal floating point, is coming along quite nicely, and I could probably release it this week.
The change from binary to decimal is pretty tricky, though, and there could easily be subtle bugs lurking in there. The current development version does seem to run my two major compatibility test cases correctly (Erik Ehrling's PRM? program, and the "1110 digits of pi" program for the HP-41 that was published in the PPC journal many years ago), so I have some confidence.
If there's anyone who has legacy 42S code that did not work well on the pre-1.4 Free42, and who is interested in running some tests to verify the new version's compatibility, I'd love to hear from you and I'll send you the latest Windows build. I can be contacted through the MoHPC mail feature.

Thanks!

- Thomas

I'd love to try to find some but I doubt I'd find anything you havn't already - I am at a bit of a disadvantage as I'm not at all familiar with the HP42..

If you don't use the 42S to run programs, you're unlikely to ever notice the difference between the "binary" and "decimal" versions of Free42... But, still, if you feel like playing around with it, just drop me a line and I'll send you the latest development build of the decimal version.
If you're curious about HP-42S emulation/simulation in general, please take a peek at my Free42 web page; you can download the current "official" (binary-only) versions of Free42 from there, and I have links to several other important HP-42S related web pages.

Thanks for your interest!

Thomas, I just dug out some older programs I had written for the HP-42S that I could test for you. I am not sure if they all work but I can give them a shot. I have a memo editor, a word processor, a database management system and some others. Please let me know if you are interested. Thanks, Andreas Terzis

Absolutely! I'll contact you via email and send you the latest version. I'm very interested to hear how well it works for you.
Thanks!
