www.kuipers.to/hp41.htm - Can anyone access it?
Message #1 Posted by Vieira, Luiz C. (Brazil) on 28 Dec 2005, 12:17 a.m.

Hi all, Meindert (?);

I am trying to access Meindert's home page for a couple of days and did not succeed. Does anyone know if it has been moved or renamed? Meindert?

Maybe it is in maintenance or being rebuilt...

Any news are welcome. Thanks.

No news, but it appears to be a failure in name service:

hbo@gate|501> whois kuipers.to
Tonic whoisd V1.0
kuipers ns1.bluedns.nl 213.196.1.192 ns3.bluedns.nl 213.196.31.200
hbo@gate|502> host kuipers.to
Host kuipers.to not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)
hbo@gate|503> host kuipers.to ns1.bluedns.nl
Using domain server:
Name: ns1.bluedns.nl
Address: 213.196.1.192#53
Aliases:

kuipers.to has address 62.221.254.185

So its registered name server knows where it is. It's probably a failure in delegation between the .to root and bluedns.nl. Can't say which one is the problem, though.

http://62.221.254.185 returns:

Deze website is niet beschikbaar.

Which I assume says "This website is not configured." That would mean that the web server is up and running. But it hosts many domains and needs the name in order to serve the right website.

Remember that Meindert said he was moving into a new home? He also mentioned setting up a bunch of computers. I'll bet he's hosting the site at home, and has transferred it to the service provider while he moves, or something like that.

Apparently there's some problem with the DNS:

The site itself works fine if you put

62.221.254.185 kuipers.to www.kuipers.to

in /etc/hosts (or your OS' equivalent)

Doh!

Of course that should work. It's a named virtual host on the other end, and it uses whatever name the client browser gives it, regardless of where the browser gets it from. Entering it into /etc/hosts as you suggest works just fine.

The Windows equivalent file is C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS . That works on Windows 9X and XP. For NT or 2K, replace "WINDOWS" in the path with "WINNT" Syntax is exactly as demonstrated by Chris.

If you do that, be sure to remove it after awhile. Otherwise it will quit working when (if) the host changes its IP address.

Regards,
Howard.

Hi guys,

This is a bad start of the year. I do not yet have broadband access at home myself (I am back at work now) so I have not noticed this. My website is located at a provider (not at home) and I will contact them today about this.

My website is offline at the moment, the registration was expired and my provider failed to extend it. This should be corrected now, but will need several hours for the domain to appear again in the DNS.

Thanks, Meindert!

Hey, Meindert;

although you are facing these problems, it is good to 'read' from you again.

If there is anything we can do from here... Let us know.

Most of all, thank you for allowing us to have access to such information you have at your website.

Best regards.

Domain still not available

Status is that the domain is still propagating through the DNS. This also involves my email, and its seems that all mails that have been sent to me the last two weeks have disappeared. Through webmail I have answered most on the 25th and 26th of December, but I may have no way of retrieving the emails (and my answers). If there were any urgent messages, please send them again after about 24 hrs from now when the domain is up and running again.

My broadband connection in my new home still does not work either. The problem is now identified and I hope that this is fixed before the end of the week.

MLDL2000 website available again.

The MLDL2000 Website and email is now working again. The good news is that all my emails that were pending on the server are still there, so nothing seems to be lost (except the messages sent while the domain was down, but those should have resulted in an error message).
