HP 65 Card Reader
Message #1 Posted by jbssm on 19 Dec 2005, 10:21 a.m.

Hi again,

sorry for making so many questions, but I don't find a solution for them anywhere else.

I tried to repair the card reader of an HP-65

I replaced the gummy well, and now the card passes (more or less well) trough the calculator. But as it's passing by it makes a very loud high pitch sound. I tried to re-assemble the reader several times and putting more or less pressure in the screws that hold it together, but it still makes this annoying sound (and the speed is erratic).

Can anybody point me to a solution?

Best regards, Jorge

The bearings in the motor and/or at the tip of the work gear shaft need to be lubricated. I use a gun oil called Break Free CLP. It takes about 30 minutes after applying for it to work. I use a small disposable paint brush to apply the lube to the motor shaft. Be careful not to get it up into the motor/gear coupling or it will slip.
