Message #1 Posted by José Lauro Strapasson on 18 July 2005, 11:55 p.m.

Hi There!

As it is hard to find the HP-42S manual I decided to create my own. It is in very begining stage and can be download at:

Nicely written so far. I am looking forward to reading more as you continue. I did find in section 2.7 where you first describe how the stack works. In ii and iii you swapped the T and Z registers. Other than that what you have started looks great.

Thank you very much!

P.S. It is said to realize that texas instruments give information about retired models and HP doesn't.:( And I bought a TI-36X Solar model from 1992 and even today the TI-36X solar is being manufactured while HP-48G, HP-42S, etc are long gone.:(

In section 2.7 you have:

i) The content of lines t and z are lost. ii) The content of line y goes to line t. iii)The content of line x goes to line z. iv)The content just entered goes to line y and line x.

Should it not read this way:

i) The content of line t is lost. ii) The content of line z goes to line t. iii)The content of line y goes to line z. iv)The content just entered goes to line y and line x.

I look forward to reading you new additions.

Hi, Richard;

first of all, I`m sorry taking the priviledge of answering (espero que o José Lauro me perdoe - I hope José Lauro forgives me), but if you consider that the example José Lauro uses in his book is based on the sequence (2 [ENTER]), then his explanation is correct, meaning he considers the first and last stack contents in one shot. In this case, his analysis considers that the stack contents are liftted twice, one time after [2] and another time after [ENTER^].

Those who already know the stack lifting, enabling/disabling 'nuts and bolts' should take care when reading, but those who do not know the stack and are reading for the first time it might need some experiments to understand it in practice. Please, take this as my personal view.

Best regards.

Luiz (Brazil)

Ops, This things happens!:):) In fact when you type something enter this enter two times and we lost the content of the last two lines. (at least in Free42) Thank anyway Richard!:) And Thank you Luiz too! By the way Luiz, do you have an account in orkut? I am there now in a section about HP calculators (in portuguese).

P.S. As I said I finished version 0.2.;)
