Don't feed the troll
Message #1 Posted by bill on 6 May 2005, 9:11 a.m.

Regarding this "Coburlin with an umlau" thing:

I fell for the bait last night and replied. Stupid of me.

Let's all delete all of our messages that feed his thread---just go kill your messages please---and then his inane baiting will be strung out like the entrails of a mangled 'possum on hot asphalt...

If you neglected to use a password for your post, just drop Dave an e-mail.

Regards,

Bill P

Hi Bill, all;

Please, forgive me, but I think we have a bug. Although it is off-topic, it is somehow of common interest.

I read the 'Terms of Use' and quoted this (second and third paragraphs):

Quote:
Users of this site will conduct themselves with responsibility and decorum, and will discuss topics of interest to our community. This should be a fun place to visit and all community members should feel welcome. The topics of these forums, include just about anything listed in the Museum pages. These include HP calculators, early HP computers, general math, calculating machines, computer history, tips on buying, finding, repairing, or using old HPs etc. Off-topic items may be deleted (or not) at the sole discretion of MoHPC.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, belligerent, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, or otherwise violative of any law.

I consider most of Coburlin's posts: abusive, belligerent, vulgar, hateful, harassing and threatening, also disrespectful.

Coburlin's posts should, as many others, invoke HP calculators usage, early HP computers, general math, calculating machines, computer history, tips on buying, finding, repairing, or using old HPs. About tips on buying, he shows his best with tips on cheating for achieving high profits.

Because of some of Coburlin's posts, the MoHPC forum sometimes seems not to be a fun place to visit, and as I consider myself a respectful community member, I feel our place for sharing common interests as being trespassed and abused.

And please, Mr. Coburlin (or Cöburlin, as you wish), feel free offending, correcting my spelling errors, criticizing my English expressions, my Brazilian origin (I'm proud of being, so it won't reach me), or whatever. I'm just p... off for seeing our place for fun and scientific discussions being invaded by someone that, definitely, cannot simply ask for excuses, leave and lost his way back here. C'mon, go to e-Bay and rest in peace, Coburlin! Enough is enough. Can´t you see you are not doing anything good here? Or, in clear Portuguese: Aí, mermão, se manca! Cai fora! Vai vê se eu tô na esquina, meo! (no offensive, abusive or outrageous term was used in the Portuguese phrases over here; just a call for leaving).

Please, folks, forgive me, but this is going out of control. If I'm asked, I'd vote for removing or completely disconsider Coburlin's messages. If no one answers, I'll not even read his posts.

Best regards to all.

One of the problems is that we were discussing Coburlin's eBay behaviour here in the forum.

If we discuss him, he should be allowed to answer!

I think, we shouldn't have mentioned him at all, but that's solely my point of view.

Marcus

P.S.: The lengthy threads with and about him made me skip messages in the forum, which I do very rarely.

Accusing Hewlett-Packard of STEALING falls WITHIN the Terms of Use!??

I didn't start this.

Okay, maybe "fraud" would be more appropriate. I'll certainly think twice before buying any HP product in the future.

As an only recent member of the HP community (I'm originally a TI guy, having used an SR-51A at school,) I'm mostly interested in solving problems in different ways, i. e. on different platforms, if at all possible. This will always include non-HP machines.

I enjoyed challenge #8 very much, but when solutions for non-HP calculators were posted (by others and me), I feared they might be banned by the above mentioned 'Terms of Use'. Luckily they weren't but where are the limits?

Personally, I dislike the more or less political discussions (see my last post), and I love the peaceful competition, e. g. between HP and TI. Wouldn't it be fun to see an HP 41C emulated on a TI-89? I'd say YES!

Hi, Marcus;

one of the very welcome subjects is general math, and when calculators are the main subject, it is even better.

There are posts here completely off-topic, and most of them carry their own 'removal password'. I myself added a few, like Xmas greetings, 'world' problems and the like. Once Dave expressed his own wish not to censor any message unless clearly offending and completely off-topic, even SPAM-originated. These are actually purged without warning. I agree with him: simply removing what is off-topic leads to a question: 'What is actually off-topic?' And you already fond yourself in this situation.

I hope you, and others as well, do not read my post as a rant. I actually avoid this, mainly because I'm not home, this is Dave's home and we are guests here, right? Behaving accordingly, with decorum, is the least. And the most of us acts accordingly, what makes this place the first choice for many, I think.

Don't you agree with me?

BTW, my www browser has the MoHPC URL as the default address for about four years.

Best regards, Marcus.

I do! Even if my browser home page is a blank screen and the MoHPC forum (daily view) is only in my bookmarks :-)

Hear, hear.

Once again you manage to express exactly what I feel.

Best

Luiz, you're a good man, and a respected member of this online community. I agree with you 100%. The idiot gets his jollies by antagonizing us and ripping off innocent people. If we ignore him, perhaps he will go away.

Come on guys, lets please move on. I've just logged on and we are still on about this guy. Don't we have better people to worry about in this world than him???????????????????????????????? Can't we just get on with the business at hand. I'm sure David would like us to.

I'm for ignoring and/or removing this troll too. I don't bother with his/her messages since none of the posts make sense anyway.
