Message #1 Posted by Peter on 18 Apr 2005, 9:10 p.m.

Hi. Would the serial # ID129... for an HP 17BII indicate that the year of manufacture was 1991? Thank you.

Nope -- 2001. "ID" indicates Indonesia; "1" indicates 2001. Every Indonesian-made unit I've seen has a SN of this format (IDynnn..). I've seen "y" as early as 7, indicating 1997.

Hi Karl,

IIRC the 'new' serial number schema was used earlier than 1997,
at least from 1993 on.
I have an OmniBook 300 with serial number US33500199,
an OmniBook 530 with serial number US43100390,
and some 1000CX palmtops with serial number starting with SG52 and SG53.

Actually, it seems all OmniBooks I had
(or have) use the newer serial number schema.

Regards

Raymond
