Help with HP42S program input
Message #1 Posted by Dannyg77 on 28 Mar 2005, 4:44 p.m.

I have the following lines to input:

475 1 476 -1 477 PIXEL

I have no clue on what combination of key strokes causes a '-1' to be displayed on one line. I have tried hitting the 1 and the +/- key, that gives me two lines. I have tried the minus key followed by the number 1 and that also gives me two program lines. I have tried looking in the alpha menus and anything in there will give me the quotes around the -1...

I suspect that the lines 1 and -1 are pixel coordinates for the display so I believe that if I try to fudge this command it will have a very bad consequence.

Hi, Danny;

the [1] followed by the [+/-] key should work; I am not sure, but you could also reverse the order.. It changes the sign of the number you are entering as a program line.

Hi;

I just realized after Gerson's answer that the issue was actually separating two numbers in a program sequence without [ENTER]... Not exactly entering a negative number.

A senior moment of mine, perhaps...

Sorry!

Input the following, considering you're at step 475:

1 ENTER 1 +/-

Then press the UP key (BST) to go back to step 476 and press the Back Arrow key (CLEAR) to clear the "ENTER".

Regards,

Gerson.

That worked quite nicely, Gerson! Very many thanks.

Hi, Danny;

just to add that the PIXEL command (function) in the HP42S uses only two numbers as coordinates, so after the sequence:

475
1
476
-1
477
PIXEL
PIXEL will actually use both (-1) and (477) as arguments. In fact, I'm not quite sure if negative values will cause the pixel to be off the display limit OR if only the integer part is used, meaning (-1) (477) PIXEL is the same as (1) (477) PIXEL. Also, after the very sequence you mention, (475) is lost without being used as argument.

Cheers.
