HP48/49 screen capture; any guidance?
Message #1 Posted by Vieira, Luiz C. (Brazil) on 15 Dec 2004, 1:15 p.m.

Hi, all;

as always, sorry asking for an OT issue again.

Can anyone add any links to any source for screen capture tools for the HP48/49 series? I know that it is easier to use an EMU and capture it onscreen (computer), but I'd like not depending on it.

In the HP48S/G there is a [ON]key sequence that "prints" the LCD contents to the current printer output (IR or wire) and I used this feature many times, successfuly, by running INPRT in another 48G/S. Now I'd like to actually save the LCD contents as a GROB (PICT, perhaps?) and transfer it to the computer for future use.

I think that it's time for me to go asking these questions in the appropriate forum. In time: I'm gonna search hpcalc.org right now (I'm positive I'm gonna find there many good stuff about this), but I'd like to know where else could I search for this sort of info.

So... can anyone lead me there, please?

Thanks a lot.

Hi, all;

I have already found and downloaded these: (@hpcalc.org)

http://www.hpcalc.org/hp48/pc/misc/calccapture.zip (emulators)
http://www.hpcalc.org/hp48/pc/link/grab48.zip
http://www.hpcalc.org/hp48/pc/misc/hpbmp.zip
http://www.hpcalc.org/hp48/pc/link/hpir.zip (82240B DOS-based emulator)
http://www.hpcalc.org/hp48/apps/shell/snap.zip
Anything else?

Thanks.

You can do that with the hpcomm, just put the flag of the printer in wire mode

Hi Luiz,

As for the 'INPRT string to GROB' conversion, try with this library for the HP48S/G (here is a related article). I don't know much about the author, but he's said to be a nice guy. :-)

Regards,

Jordi

If you're pulling from the 49g+ or 48gII, just capture the screen from Conn4x. That's what we did for the learning modules.

Works with the 49g too.

Learning modules? Like...plotting?
Oh, I wish it were Xmas already, I want a new PC to accept some 3D plots from my 49g+ and only thing missing is the 3,06 GHz CPU...

How true. :-) I'm waiting on the US postal service to make some deliveries to me...still no sign.

I guess patience is a virtue...I just want patience NOW! :-)

I'll be doing some experiments based on your guidance, folks.

Thanks!

Best regards.

(and Jordi, your suggestion - the article about the Spices, remember? - is "inside the oven" already... Thanks!)

If I understand correctly you want to use the LCD-> command.

You may want to have it as a program so you don't change the command line of your screenshot.

Hi, Arnaud;

Thank you for your LCD-> suggestion, it works fine, indeed. The problem is when you have a temporary screen, like a message or a menu, or anything else where the softkeys already have temporary assignments and you cannot run LCD->. Also, in some cases, LCD-> is not able to capture all screen information. The [ON][I/O] sequence in the HP48G (maybe it's the HP48S, I don't remember) sends the entire screen contents to the current output (IR or wire) and you can actually capture it as a GROB with another HP48 running INPRT. I'd like having this sort of functionality with the HP49G+, but I guess that using Conn4X and capturing the screen as a standard image is easier and faster, though.

Thanks a lot.
