HP 67 card reader
Message #1 Posted by Derek on 4 Dec 2004, 2:32 p.m.

I was wondering if there is a way to test the operation of an HP 67 card reader without any magnetic cards. I have been unable to find any and am preparing to sell this thing but don't know of any way to verify its operation.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, Derek

I would be happy to mail you a few cards in an envelope. Send me your address. Erik

Unless you (or somebody else) has replaced the drive wheel rubber then it is pretty much guaranteed that the reader will not work.

You're right I don't think it works. Does anyone know if they're easy to repair? Or have an opinion if it is really worth my time to fix it before sale? If a working card reader is only going to add $20 or so to its value then its definitely not worth fixing to me.

I just got a new battery for the thing and am surprised at how well this old beast still works. I used this same calculator when programming in my physics formlas back in high school in 1980/81.

I you were selling the '67 to me, I would rather you left it alone so that I did all the work.

Others may prefer that they get a working calculator.

Well after scrounging around a bit I've found some instructions on how to repair the wheel. I think I'm gonna go for it and do it myself. Unless you or someone else express a real interest in getting if from me in an unrepaired state.
