41CV keyboard cleaning
Message #1 Posted by andy on 6 Nov 2004, 5:31 p.m.

Hi,

I have an older model 41cv (square corners on the display) which is having trouble registering the "2" key. Is it the elastomer interconnect failing or is it just dirt? I have taken the calculator apart and it looks good internally (no battery corrosion or visible dirt inside).

The keyboard/display are fairly dirty though. Now that I have it apart, is it safe to clean the keyboard/display half of the 41cv in distilled water?

Thanks, Andy

If it's a single key, it's dirt since the keyboard is row/column multiplexed.

Don't immerse the display, it's just not a good idea. Unsolder first and set aside. Ultrasonically clean the keyboard in distilled water if possible, that should solve the problem. If that's not an option, try a few drops of Caig DeoxIT D5 in the hole of the pcb for the key in question.
