Free42 1.0.1
Message #1 Posted by Thomas Okken on 5 Nov 2004, 7:26 p.m.

I thought a few of the bugs that I had heard about were serious enough that I didn't want anyone to wait any longer than necessary for a fixed version. Version 1.0.1 is here, and a list of fixed bugs is here.

Enjoy, and thanks to all for your feedback!

Now I really want to hunt a HP42S for real... I didn't know the HP42 graphed equations. How do you graph equations on the HP42S please?

Anyway, much thanks as Free42 has been a fine addition to my comptuer.

The HP-42S does not have a function plotter built in (unlike the 28 and 48 series), but it does have a bit-mapped display and a PIXEL instruction that lets you control individual pixels.

The HP-42S manual has a program listing for a function plotter called DPLOT, which plots a function using the PIXEL command; the version of DPLOT that's in the Free42 state files on the Free42 home page is an improved version that works with functions that have MVAR instructions, so you can plot any two parameters of a multi-parameter function against each other (it gives you the option to use SOLVE if necessary).

So, it's not a standard feature, but it's not terribly hard to program, either. And, obligatory Free42 plug: on a really fast 42S, the combination of SOLVE and plotting can be very handy. :-)

Cool! Thanks. I'll have to play around with it and the Integral function.

CLALL seems to work ok until I close the emulator . I get an application error message box. The next emulator session says that my state file is corrupt.

Ouch! Memory corruption. Nasty.
It's fixed in release 1.0.3 (here)

Thanks for letting me know!

I want to say a warm THANK YOU on behalf myself and the folks who downloaded your emulator. This is a labor of love that we all appreciate greatly. Your prompt updates are greatly appreciated too. Writing an emulator for a calculator like the 42s is NOT a trivial matter.

<taking a bow>

Thank you!

:-)

P.S. Keep the bug reports coming and I'll keep the fixes coming!
And early next year, look for Free42 1.1 with lots of nice new features.
