If US Presidential votes were counted with an HP...vs...If votes were counted with a TI...
Message #1 Posted by Gene on 2 Nov 2004, 8:56 p.m.

Looking for humorous ends to those sentences. :-)

Any takes? And, don't pick on either brand to the exclusion of the other.

And, finally, don't pick on either candidate. Let's pick on the calculator manufacturers!

:-)

Heh.

I don't know about the manufacturers, but if an advanced HP machine was used, say, any of the 48 series, 42S, 34C (maybe), 49 series, etc., I'm sure someone could write and someone else download programs to put any kind of projected spin on the eventual outcome.

It depends on the state the HP calculator is used in, and I don't mean solid, liquid, nor gas.

;)

If US Presidential votes were counted with an HP... Nixon would be elected.

If votes were counted with a TI... The counters would be Floridans. (sorry Art)

"One man one vote" -- To add 1+1+1+... on a TI-89 you have press 1 ENTER + 1 ENTER ENTER ENTER... On an HP-42S you have to press 1 ENTER ENTER ENTER + + + + + + + +...

Now you clearly see what's more positive <G>

If the votes were counted on a 49g+, there would need to be a recount

HP: On the 49G+ voters would raise concerns that they weren't sure if their vote had registered. States using older HPs note that while votes are tabulated more slowly, their reliability and accuracy make the trouble worthwhile.

TI: Some voters question the reliability of these machines claiming they both are inefficient and cheaply made. For the vast majority of the public, however, they are standard equipment (and are rarely questioned).

If U.S. presidential votes were counted with an HP machine the loser would protest that use of such a machine would be more appropriate in a backward Eastern European (reverse Polish) election.

In U.S. presidential votes were counted with a TI machine the loser would protest that votes are never counted honestly in Texas (remember LBJ's congrssional election), by Texans or on a machine made in Texas.

If US Presidential votes were counted with an HP, we would have immediate results, not counting the missed keystrokes.

If votes were counted with a TI, we would wait a long time for the results. Or votes for people only from Texas would be counted.

LOL

If US Presidential votes were counted with an HP or a TI, the US wouldn't have any président for a long time. Try to press "enter" 55000000 times on such a machine, if you're quick enough, you can press 4 times "enter" 4 times in a second. So you'll have the final result in...160 days.

HP 41 in election times...

If Kerry had won, an HP 41 on Bush's hands would have displayed "PACKING". As Bush won, indeed, an HP 41 on Kerry´s hands should now display "TRY AGAIN".

Cute!

Given my sympathies, though, Kerry's HP41 should reflect his chances of future election/ relevancy: "NONEXISTENT" ;)

Har, har.

Given the stigma that Americans attach to having lost an election for the highest office, I doubt that John Kerry would run again for President. But, he's still a Senator in a "safe" state with plenty of time left on his term, so he's hardly irrelevant.

There didn't used to be a stigma. Even after Adlai Stevenson lost in successive presidential elections to Dwight Eisenhower in 1952 and 1956, Richard Nixon was able to run again and win in 1968 after having lost a close election in 1960.

I have a TI that gives 11.5 as the sine of 30 degrees. Probably the type used in Chicago.
