HP-41's in space
Message #1 Posted by Jim Creybohm on 28 Oct 2004, 4:02 p.m.

I know most of us have seen the images of the 41 in space, but here is a little text on the background of the computers used in the space program. Apologies to those who may have seen this before.

Interesting reading even if the 41 only merits a portion of the paragraph.

In 1995 my wife and I went to Florida in December for two weeks holiday. We missed a launch of a conventional rocket (Delta) by 3 secs, apparently they stopped it just before ignition some technical problem. We had a good look around the Space Centre and I bought a book by Sally Ride one of the Shuttle Astronaunts called to "Space and Back". On one of the pages it shows Sally floating around on the flight deck and in the background are three custom templated HP41's. It is a great book and I love to read it as I get great inspiration from it on dark winter nights. I would copy the picture and send it but I think it would infringe copyright. Best Regards Richard. [I have 2 41's]
