HP-35 repair
Message #1 Posted by Jason on 2 July 2004, 3:10 p.m.

HELP!!! I spilt coffee on my working HP-35 calculator and after opening it up to air it out, a little brass clip fell out (it looks like a little "M" or "W", depending on its orientation. I do not know where it should be placed prior to reassembly. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know. Thanks, JDH

I'd guess that it came from the ON/OFF switch. I don't know the HP-35 but I have a HP-32E and the power switch has this (golden?) piece of metal to close the contacts.

Good luck!

This is from your on/off switch. Put the calculator with the buttons down on the table. Now put the brass part in the switch button. the litle v should be pointing downwards (oriented like a W, not as a M if you understand what I mean). Now put the other parts back in place and close the calculator after you cleaned is dried it.

Good Luck

When my nephew poured salt water on the key board of my first HP-41, I washed it out with great floods of fresh tap water and then dried the calculator in the lowest heat I could get in the oven. It worked fine for the next several years - I don't know what happened to it after I sold the HP-41C when I had a CV and CX on hand.

Joe had salt water fish.

It is either the power switch contact or the charger port bypass strap. The charger strap snaps in the place where the charger plugs in and connects the two outer pins together when the charger is not plugged in.

Dave,

Thank you. I never would have figures that out. Now I have a coffee-flavored HP-35...
