Serial number logic
Message #1 Posted by Bruno Geuth on 14 June 2004, 8:10 a.m.

Hi,

Can anybody help me understand the serial number on my HP 95 LX (made in 1990 or 1991): S/N on back: ABB3136A01037

I have been reading articles on HP serial number logic on this forum but these do NOT seem to apply on the 95 LX...

Any suggestions very welcome!

Thanks,

Bruno Geuth

Hi,

the ABB is only the product localisation code. Should be here in the museum, too.

The codes I know from memory:

ABA = US

ABB = Somewhere in the EU, maybe Great Britain

ABD = Germany

The remaining chars are the normal serial number code, using the schema HP used up to the mid nineties. In detail, your machine has a date stamp of the 36th week in 1991, was made in the U.S.A. , and the running batch number is 01037.

HTH,

Raymond
