Help with HP-25
Message #1 Posted by Jamie Cox on 11 June 2004, 9:59 p.m.

I recently acquired a nice-looking HP-25. It was languishing in a pile of junk. It was in the original case. I didn't find a charger for it. The battery pack looked to be in good condition -- no corrosion. It must have been replaced. I removed the battery pack from the calculator and charged it with a NiCad battery charger. It holds a charge. The battery contacts are okay, too.

I put the charged pack into the calculator and powered it on.

The calculator didn't work. The display behaved erratically when turned on. It has never displayed correct digits, even for a moment.

Is there any hope for fixing an HP-25 with this type of problem? Any ideas? Thanks.

Are you sure that the batteries are OK? After a long period of non-use they may need a couple of charge/discharge cycles to operate correctly. When both my HP-21 and HP-29c gets too low power, their display is kind of randomly activating the segment LEDs. I'm not sure if your HP-25 behaves similarly.
If the batteries indeed are OK, then I fear the device itself is in error, but I have no experience with that.
