hp serial number codes on later models
Message #1 Posted by Charlie O. on 15 Apr 2004, 8:58 p.m.

This question may have gotten lost in another thread:

Which digits indicate the year and what do they mean? I've been searching everywhere and all I can find are the old codes. 2345S02345 vs ID12345678. Many thanks.

ID12345678

ID = Country code (ID is Indonesia, CN is China) 1 = last digit of year of manufacture (I guess this is 2001) 23 = 23rd week 45678 = sequential number

Hope that helps, and please, anyone, correct me if I'm wrong! B.

That all sounds reasonable to me. Was 2001 the year of the color changes? like brown to black plastic, brown to silver bezel and orange, blue keys to purple, green keys?

Also, did hp make several thousand calculators per week or did they run numbers for full production period?
