HP41CX 24hour time format
Message #1 Posted by Mike on 1 Apr 2004, 10:33 p.m.

I just purchased an HP41CX. I've never owned one before. I'm trying to set the time to 24 hour format and the command is "CLK24". I can't seem to get the calculator to accept the numerical part of the command, it gives me the "nonexistent" error message. I'm probably not keying in the command properly. If someone could email me the proper key-by-key sequence I would really appreciate it.

Thanks, Mike

Hi, Mike;

first let's lead you to a litlle trip. Get one of your fingers ready to press [R/S] and execute:

[SHIFT][CATALOG] 2 [R/S]
You must be fast pressing [R/S] as you immediately see
[-TIME 2x   ]
where "x" may be some letter (firmware version; the "2" means CX-ROM). Keeping your attention to [R/S], now you press:
[ENTER] [R/S]
and you are ready to navigate through the Time Functions by using [SST] (single step) and [SHIFt][BST] (back step) keys.

The first function you should see is

[ADATE    ]
that allows a value in the X-register to be appended to the ALPHA register current contents with a date format. Of course, this number must represent a valid data.

Press [SST] five times and you'll see [CLK12]; one [sST] more and you'll see [CLK24]. O.K., you have the correct spelling. Now, press [<-] key (left-arrow) and your display returns to current X-register.

To actually execute CLK24 you must press:

[XEQ][ALPHA] C L K {SHIFT] 2 [SHIFT] 4 [ALPHA]

If you look at the small label in the back of the calculator, you'll see that all numbers are shiftted related to their keys when the ALPHA mode is ON. If you are executing [ED], the ASCII-file editor, there is a way to "invoke" the number keyboard by simply "deactivating" ALPHA (i.e. pressing [ALPHA]).

I hope this helps for now. Let us know if you succeed.

Cheers.

(Please, if something goes wrong, let me know; again, I wrote by heart... No calcs in hands right now)

Hi;

I know that these "navigation skills" are also found in the CCD module, but I am almost sure other modules may offer it (HEPAX?). Simply using the X-Functions with an HP41C or CV will not give this sort of functionality.

Sorry!

I don't remember exactly how EMDIR behaves, but that's the only thing you have.

Hi, Johnny;

you're right: EMDIR is a "no-stop" directory for the Extended Memory; by "no-stop" I mean it cannot be stopped so you can use [BST] and [SST] as it happens with [CAT]4 in the HP41CX or with the CCD's [CAT'] "extension"; EMDIR goes straight ahead till it finds the last EM entry. It also returns the number of available registers at the end of the listing (the EMROOM in the HP41CX is faster for this particular purpose).

Cheers.
