Message #1 Posted by Iqbal on 29 Feb 2004, 8:24 p.m.

Anyone has the story behind this one? Is this an original?

Probably assembled from one or more case parts that HP had shot with clear plastic in order to check internal assembly clearances.

A few weeks ago there was an HP97 base in clear on an e-bay auction, and a HP67 case.

Best,

Jerry

I saw the HP 67 clear case already. But this is the first time I have seen a 41CX clear case. I wonder how much of these were made?

Iqbal,

Only a guess, but I suspect only a couple of dozen at most.

Again, only enough to test for clearance of the internals visually. I suspect a few left the premises in briefcases so a few employees could have "neat" examples of the calc.

Best,

Jerry

I found the following on Woldek Mier Jedrzejowicz's "HP REFERENCE" site:

"With some models, HP make a few calculators which work as normal but are in a transparent plastic case, not the normal HP black (or dark green or dark blue) plastic case. These are designed to let people see the insides of the calculator -- maybe to let them see how well it is made, and how much gold plating goes into an HP calculator -- no doubt justifying its high price."
