I have a 20 year old HP 11c (still chugging). Somehow I mistakenly hit a key combination that switched the calculator to European format (i.e. the function of the comma and the decimal point have been switched.) It is driving me crazy. Does anyone know how to switch this back?

Turn it off. Press the decimal point and hold it down while pressing ON, release ON, release decimal point. Works like a toggle.
