I am so happy, found a spare HP-41
Message #1 Posted by Walter on 23 Jan 2004, 2:40 p.m.

Hello,

I was comenting to a friend of mine that I was so afraid that my HP-41CV would fail after 20 years in service and the fact that the battery pack was not holding charge and the difficulty of getting a new pack.

I also told him that I got a new HP-48GX and I was not happy because it was not an easy to use calculator but it was more like a small computer.

Well, he gave me his HP-41CX that he used 15 years ago in college and never used it again. And it has the alkaline battery holder!

I told him the prices in e-bay, but he did not wanted any money and he also pay for dinner. I guess I owe him dinner.

Only you guys could understand my happiness and the security I have that I will be able to add, multiply, calculate a tangent and once in a while run a program for the next decades to come.

Cheers,

Walter

Hey, Walter;

I used to post here more often than now (many reasons); I have been somehow busy, and at the moment I think I am finding the time to get "back to business", I find some interesting, time consuming and worth doing extra job.

I now EXACTLY what you mean; at least I remember it well, when I got my second and third HP41: both in the same day. I had an HP41C with one memory module, and suddenly I found myself with an HP41CX plus reader (brand new at the time: 1982), a pack with a 41CV, a printer, a wand and another reader (all second hand units) and a brand new HP16C. I have all of these till today, all working fine.

Have you never had an HP41CX before? Oh, boy, the HP41CV is the calculator, I know, but the HP41CX is THE CALCULATOR. I have an HP48G, an HP48G+ and an HP48SX; I like RPL as well as RPN, and I use all calcualtors I have (many regular contributors and visitors in here have already read these words of mine).

What to say? Go for it! Congrats! Sincerely d;^)

Have a nice keystroke sequence and good programming!

Cheers.

Luiz (Brazil) (in silence but far)

Hello,

congrats from me, too. As Luiz indicated, my suggestion is you could use your CX, and keep the CV as a spare. Note that the CX has the X-Functions with 124 X-mem registers and Time modules built-in, and some other functional extensions which don't exist in the C or CV.

Have fun!

Regards,

Raymond

Never throw away an HP battery pack. The battery cells in the HP41 rechargeable pack can be replaced. Any good battery shop should be able to do the surgery. Most people these days use a 1/3AAA NiMH cell. It does require a little bit of shimming to get them to fit properly because they are a bit smaller than the originals.

Congratulations Walter!

I too am so enamoured of the 41CX, i bought a second one just in case. It is hard to explain how much happier I am being able to use a 41 instead of my 48.

Good luck with it.
