Recall of the HP48GII
Message #1 Posted by Sergei Frolov on 30 Nov 2003, 12:39 p.m.

I heard, that HP recall the HP48Gii from sale.

Is this a software or hardware problem?

I set this question, because I want to find out: should I search the HP48Gii for the collectors purpose? Or the corrected HP48Gii will same?

Thanks

Sounds like you are right! I checked the HP web site and they are NOT selling the HP48GII. It is still announced, but that's as far as it goes. I also checked Amazon and they are no longer selling the HP48GII either.

It's a software problem. The HP48GII suffers from the same high power consumption as the first batch of HP49G+.

The problem was solved by the new OS version 1.22.

But because the HP48GII does NOT have a flashable rom, it can not be "upgraded". HP postponed the introduction of the HP48GII to january 2004.

Thanks Arnold. Makes sense. My HP48GII has ROM version 1.20 and says it's an HP49-C. I know the HP48GII is based on the old HP49G, but I thought that the ROm would at least show a 48-related name!!!

I have not used my HP48GII much. It powers up fine (the batteries have been in it for a while too) and seems to work fine.

BTW, is the HP39G+ recalled also???

The 39G+ (assuming such an animal is to exist) has not been introduced yet, so it cannot yet be recalled! :-)

The 48GII problem was with high power drain with power off. If you have rom 1.20 on a 48GII, it has this problem.

Thanks Gene for the info. I was able to order an HP39G+ from Amazon (should arrive tomorrow here). Amazon is no longer offering the 39G+.

39G+? Shouldn't be arriving at all

It will be interesting to see what arrives to you tomorrow.

The 39G+ has not been introduced in the USA (or anywhere) (yet).

There shouldn't have been any 39G+'s for Amazon.com to ship to you.

Hmm...if you get a 39G+ tomorrow, let me (us) know.

Will do Gene. I double checked my Amazon order and it is an HP39G+ they sell for just under $79.

Yesterday, I went to Amazon and easily found the 39g+, but waited to order until I saw yours had arrived.

Today I can't find it. Of course I didn't save the link...

Could you post the link if it's still available?
