Help, 48G+ serial pins got pushed in. Message #1 Posted by Matt Kernal (US) on 15 Oct 2003, 12:36 p.m. I did a bad, bad thing. I misaligned the 4-pin serial cable connector with the mating connector on my 48G+ and pushed the calculator's 4 pins in too far! I pulled them back out with a needle-nose pliers, but the calculator won't communicate serially anymore. I guess I have no other choice but to open it :-( so I can re-solder the pins on the inside. With all the different instructions of how to disassemble a 48, can anybody recommend the best, first choice method? Or should I send it to someone that has experience? Upgrade memory at the same time to 256KB+ (currently has 128KB)? Calling all advisors.. Thx. Matt

One of the methods reportedly will work without having to drill any holes. I took apart a 48G with a method requiring sokme cutting and drillig, and it worked out OK but it sure would be nice to do it without leaving a loose body and all the holes! I will look for these files, and fwd them to you. BTW, I had a pin push in, too, but pulled it right out with pliers and all is fine. I have a very nice new cable made by Konstantin Lysenko, and it has a little "arrow" to show the way, and it fits snugly, so I hope I don't make the misalignment again! regards, Bill

I believe his specialties are the 48's, both the S and G series, and the Pioneer series machines (32SII, 42S, 20S, etc.) He sometimes posts here and his site and e-mail addresses are listed somewhere on one of the pages of this Museum site.

I see his repair pricing is pretty reasonable- $39. I'll have to ask him if he can upgrade memory as well. My feelings are that it could get too expensive to justify (especially cause I'm savin' for a 49G+). Matt
