Custom HP-11C?
Message #1 Posted by Patrick on 6 Sept 2003, 3:34 a.m.

Did HP or anyone else ever offer a customization service for HP-11C's or other Voyagers. Take a look at this auction which shows an 11C like machine with strange keyboard markings. They appear to be very well done, not haphazard. It also appears that certain keys now have new functions. Very strange.

I saw this (or other like this calculator) on ebay some time ago. The seller canceled the auction when he realized he had a special unit...

It's only an overlay

Since the Voyagers have a USER mode, there where custom programs developed that simply mapped the unique functions to different keys. Based on the sellers description, I think this is a horse handicapping program ported from the 41.

The different legends are on a sticky sheet pasted onto the calculator. The real bezel should be underneath. If not, they just peeled it off and stuck on their own.

No different than 41 or 48 overlays.

The HP-11 have the "User" mode, but it only swaps the function of the first 5 keys of the first row. You can call the labelled functions "A" through "E" without using the "G" shitf, but the original functions are called using the "G" shift. I really thing that it is a customized HP-11C with different keyboard faceplate and ROM. My 2¢...

Nelson

Yes, not sure about the overlay theory. I think there are custom key labels here that cannot be explained by user mode or through "GSB X" key combinations.

It still could be an overlay

The custom labels are only on the A through E, R/S and RCL keys. The keys themselves are all original. I really think it's just an overlay designed for a specific program.

Just my 2 cents. Victor
