HP-15C or 11C i found
Message #1 Posted by Frederic on 3 Sept 2003, 7:24 p.m.

Hi! i finally found a scientific calculator that have the same series as the HP-12C i already have. But the calculator is in very bad cosemtic condition : completely scratches back label, no more logo on the right, the silver besel have a lot of tin scratches ant there is a scratches on the black faceplate ;-(

The good news is that it works perfectly! The problem is that i don't know which model is it : a 15C or a 11C. I remember the 2 models and they have differences with keyboard key assignements?!?

I have no BLUE keys and if i remember, the 15C and 11C have one : is there variant keyboard assignements for the 15C or the 11C. One thinks i'm sure is that's not a 12C : no business key!

thank you for answering

Fred

I think you have one HP-10C, it is the only one of the Voyager series that doesn't have the blue "g" shift key.

Best regards,

Nelson

As Nelson said.

You can check the keyboard against a 10C picture here: http://www.hpmuseum.org/10c.jpg

Also, you can run the keyboard test , that should end with "10" on the center of the display. Instructions for auto and keyboard test are at the end of this page: http://www.hpmuseum.org/features/10cf.htm

You were right. it's a 10C i made the self test and i saw the museum picture; me, i was hoping to get a 15C or at least a 11C. Well it's better than nothing.

Thanks Fred

Better than nothing?

Well, if you are a pure user then, yes, the 11C and 15C would be of more value to you. However, the 10C is the rarest of all the Voyagers and those of us who fancy themselves as collectors hunt for them avidly. In fact, if you look on the "Prices & Rarity" section of the Museum, you'll see that the 10C is rated as "Very Difficult" to find, whereas the 11C is "Easy" and the 15C is "Moderate".

A few months ago, a 10C with a manual went for about $175 (I know because I bought it). Just recently, a 10C alone went for over $200 (no, I didn't get that one). You can generally get an 11C for much less than $200 and a 15C in average condition in that range as well.

If you don't fancy the 10C, I suggest you put it up for auction on eBay and use the proceeds to buy a 15C. It will be pretty close to a wash financially, I suspect, or a small gain for you.

Well, i wasn't aware of that! I'm not a collector but i lie the 15C; i had on but it has been stolen some years ago. You are probably ok with selling it but the problem is that it is cosmetically very BAD but electronically fully functionnal so for a collector, it's not a good specimen! Perhaps i can find someone with an ugly 15C to exchange it for my very ugly 10C ;-)

P.S. : i'm more happy now since i know i have a rare calculator, ha if the ex owner's knows what you know about the 10C and it's value...
