A spare black screen 48GX
Message #1 Posted by R Lion (Espaņa) on 27 Aug 2003, 10:09 a.m.

I have just received a 48GX from Samson Cables, as a spare unit. The black screen is slightly better than the old blue. Not a wonderful, but it is a better screen.

What I want to know is about the serial number. It is ID311xxxxx. Does this mean that this unit has been made this year?

Thanks in advance

Raul

I purchased a 48gx from hp just before they were discontinued, and it has the black display as well.

Yes, made in Indonesia this year. Looks like they pulled production back from China before killing it off.

The 48GX is no longer being produced by HP.

I'm surprised: I thought they have discontinued it in 2001 or 2002...

So, R. Lion, you say that the screen is a bit better, but only marginally. I was wondering if you could elaborate?

I was thinking about buying a backup 48 and I was going to get one that has a black screen, but I can find blue-screen used ones cheaper, and need some help to decide.

I'm very interested in your (and other people's) insights.

Thank you ver much!

What I see when I put both calcs side by side, is a better contrast in the black screen. Although I wouldn't say a "much better" contrast, the black screen is certainly more readable specially with poor light.
Other thing I see is that the new screen reflects less, but I can be sure if the old one has lost some kind of covering along years...
That's for what I said "slightly better "... but I've seen other people's posts saying what a wonderful the black screen is... You can look for more opinions in comp.sys.hp48
