49 blues
Message #1 Posted by Harry on 25 Aug 2003, 6:32 a.m.

Whenever I turn on the 49 it requires that I press the on button a few times in rapid succession. A splash screen pops up for a brief period that advertises something about being "Powered by the ---kernel" (I cant make out the whole name) and also I have to adjust the contrast each time.

Is there a way to turn the thing on by just pressing the on button only once and is it possible to store the contrast setting? Also what is the purpose of the splash screen?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The splash screen has no real purpose. It's only a banner for the 'MDG MetaKernel', MDG meaning 'Maubert Development Group', AFAIK.

Since you see the splash screen, this means your machine does a warmstart. After a normal off-on cycle you don't see the splash.

Make sure you don't have a strange STARTUP program, which could set your contrast.

If you don't have valuable data in your machine, you could do a reset, pressing ON+A+F, then the NO softkey. For more details on this procedure, please consult your manual...

You should also check your installed ROM version. The current version is 1.97 (beta) or alike, but nearly all machines were shipped with older, unstable versions. If you have such an older version, you should urgently upgrade to the latest one. Again, please consult your manual...

If that isn't the cause, you could check if your calc is still under warranty. If yes, just return the thing to your dealer.

After all, it's just a 49G (sorry;-)

I realize you meant 1.19-7, but is it available? I just checked JYA's site, which is still 1.19-6. I remember reading he was beta-testing 1.19-7 with close associates. If you know where I can d/l this new one, I'd be most appreciative of finding out where to get it. Thanks Raymond.

Yes, you're right. I meant 1.19-7 ;-) And no, I don't know if that version did find it's way to the public. At least I never saw it, and don't have it.

My 49G still has ROM 1.14+-xyz@+... or maybe 1.16 something, the other unit has a 1.05 ROM, and thus you can imagine how long I didn't use that door stopper;-)

Regards,

Raymond
