PPC ROM on eBay
Message #1 Posted by Massimo Gnerucci (Italy) on 3 Aug 2003, 6:46 p.m.

My turn to point at eBay craziness: don't you think that $585.23 are a little too much for a PPC rom and manual?

The bidding is curious, don't you think? The bidder with the most bids is someone who knows well the value of HP Calc stuff, so why so much???

Perhaps it's the one that went "missing" during packaging of the PPC ROMS :-)

Gee, I only paid $80 about 2 years ago for mine without a manual. Someone else gave me a manual in trade for some slide rules later. But heck, if someone offered me $600 for my getup I might be tempted to sell.

Hmm. I paid 100 EUR for mine a few years ago, which came *complete* with module, manual, pocket guide, synthetic card, and some additional PPC paperwork, and it was (and is) like new.

Ok, I bought my first PPC module back in the early eighties, and that one was much more expensive. My HP dealer charged me nearly 500 DM, which is about 250 EUR. But that was twenty years ago, and the module just hit the market...

Mine was an original, ordered during the actual project itself. I still remember waiting nearly a year after sending in the $95 (1980 $$) to PPC. You can tell the early ROMS because they were engraved with your order number.

What a wonderful Christmas I had when it arrived in mid-December. :-)

Perhaps it was I who packaged your PPC ROM in those old days of 1981. I was one of the "local PPCers" who volunteered during the (nightmarish) shipping day.

Now it's been almost 22 years, and I still remember it...

Yes, Gene, I also remember that loooooonnnng wait. But also, remember that I got TWO for the price of one. My order number with an "A" on one and with a "B" on the other. Turned out to be a deal!

Well, only a few weeks ago, a complete set on eBay went for something like $ 255. and was totally complete. I guess everyone was on vacation and missed it (including me) :(((

I sold a "module only" in May 2003 that was one of the original "PPC Members Only" distribution for $103.50 on ebay.

I could easily have been talked into adding the manual, QRG, etc. for that kind of price.
