HP 11C Error 3
Message #1 Posted by Phill higgins on 23 July 2003, 8:53 p.m.

While working on a program for private pilot navigation: which has one vector of known magnitude and direction and two others (one with a known direction and the other with a known magnitude), I got "error 3" when I tried to STO in registers 8 and 9 only. I have safely put the manual away (where I cant find it) and wonder what "error 3" means and if there is a way of overcoming it. The problem is to find the missing direction and magnitude to make the vectors close the triangle. Phill

Hi, Phill;

[Error 3 ] means the registers you want to access ([STO] or [RCL]) are allocated to program lines. Please, press [g][MEM] and you will see something like this:

[P-nn, r-7]

This means you have only registers R0 to R7 and permanent RI (index register); also, you have already used up to 147 lines with program instructions.

nn is in the range 0 to 6.

To get rid of [Error 3 ] you should remove program lines; but this is only "possible" when you have unused or unwanted program lines. If you cannot remove program lines, you actualy cannot use registers R8, R9 and R.0 to R.9, in this case.

Hope this hels.
