HP15C
Message #1 Posted by Thierry on 5 July 2003, 3:34 a.m.

I have change the batteries of my HP15C and I have lost the setting. As I have lost the user manual, I have two problem now. I have message "error 3" when I want to use the memories from "2" (no problem with "0" and "1"). And I want to use the virgule to separate the decimal (sorry, i'm french). I know the solutions are in the manuals, because I had the problems the last time I change the batteries, but it's few years ago, and I forget the solutions. Thanks Thierry

Hello, Thierry;

the problems are simple, so far. To change comma (virgule) for period (dot), do the following:

1 - make sure the calculator is turned to OFF (hors-fonction);
2 - press and hold down the [.] key;
3 - while [.] is held down, switch the calculator ON;
4 - release [.] key

You can perform this set of operations for as many times as you need. They will toggle comma to dot everytime you press the keys in sequence.

About the [Error 3 ] message, you can choose a few options. Before that, find the [RCL] key and you'll see [MEM] printed in blue in one of its faces. Now, with the calculator switched to ON, please, follow this sequence:

1 - press the blue [g] key and release it;
2 - press and hold the [RCL] key (you performed [g][MEM]);

You'll see something like this:

[ 1 fr pr-b ]

where:

1 - number of the highest available register; as you cannot access any register above R1, you'll see '1'; this value may reach 65 and is named registers' segment, sort of a memory "share" to hold the numbered registers (*)
fr - number of free (available) registers in the "common segment', i.e., part of the existing memroy that can be occupied with program steps, matrix elements, complex stack and SOLVE/Integrate temporary scratch area
pr - number of hole registers currently used by program(s)
b - remaining bytes from last "assigned" register for program steps storage. b can be in the range 0 to 6
(*) except for registers RI, R0 and R1 that are permanently available

fr, pr and b vary in accordance with memory use register

The HP15C user can manualy specify the first parameter (that we assumed 1 in your case) by using the sequence [f][DIM][(i)] like this:

-enter the number of the highest register you plan to use (not the number of registers you plan to use);
- press [f][DIM][(i)]

Now you can check memory again and you'll see:

[g][MEM] (hold [MEM]-key pressed for as long as you ned to see)

[rr fr  pr-b]

where rr is the number of the last available register. Remember that you will not be able to specify rr for a value bigger than the existing memory.

The other choice is memory clear [ Pr Error ]. Consider doing this only as a last alternative. If you want to perform this "master clear", do it:

1 - make sure the calculator is turned to OFF (ors-fonccion);
2 - press and hold down the [-] key;
3 - while [-] is held down, switch the calculator ON;
4 - release [-] key

You'll see [ Pr Error ], and if you press [g][MEM] right after clearing all memory, you'll see:

[ 19 46 0-0]

What means you may use any register from R0 to R9 and R.0 to R.9 and the index register RI

Hope this helps for now. If not, let us know.

Hey, Thierry;

thank you so much! Help is always welcome.

If I can say the same, count on me (us), too. One of our contributors, Valentin Albillo, will surelly find many additional information for your HP15C daily use. He is an HP15C's expert, no pun intended at all.

Best regards.
