Help needed: HP-12c Display
Message #1 Posted by Renato on 24 June 2003, 9:33 p.m.

I got this Malaysia unit with a bad CPU. Exchanged the main PCB with another one, and transfered the display. Now I have a dislexic 12c - seems to work, but the display is garbage. I think I need advice on how to align the display on the PCB - or maybe I should send it to the International HP hospital at Araguari, MG Brazil...

Hi, Renato;

I cannot see the display, but maybe they are not compatible. Can you generate an image with it so we can check what sort of garbage you see?

Earlier Voyagers had an LCD with many conections on top and a few on bottom. Newer HP12C have an LCD with equaly distributed connections. Itīs easy to see and I believe you checked first.

Another cause, and most likely to be, is dirty polymers. I had once to almost scrap an old set of polymers because they simply had an isolating "coat" that refused to leave with alcohol. You could also check if the mainboard connections for the LCD are not dirty (isolated).

Anyway, if you think itīs needed, be welcome, my pleasure. You know the address...

Success (to us all), my friend.
