Buy another one through Ebay or the classified ads here.

Ask HP? Ba-boom. But seriously,

  1. Check the batteries.
  2. Try the master reset under the top left foot.
  3. Press on the rasied portion of the bezel above the B and C keys while trying to turn it on.
  4. If none of the above work, repost here or roll the dice of eBay.

Did all that, no luck.

Have you tried removing the batteries and any inserted cards, waiting a few hours, and then using the master clear power on sequence? This is what works for mine when it goes brain dead from something I have done. Last time was when I was changing memory card batteries and accidentally pulled the card out with power on. The calculator appeared to be dead. The above sequence fixed it.

Not sure what you mean by the master power on sequence.

I've tried leaving the batteries out for a couple of days. Tried the paper clip end in the hole on the back. Tried a couple of reset key procedures. No luck.

The calculator stopped responding to any key strokes including resets and had a frozen display. I took the batteries out and have not been able to turn it on since.

If you reply, please specifiy key sequence as I do not happen to have the manual with me at present.

HP48SX keyboards

It sounds like a shorted keyboard. A key that stays closed electrically will lock up any 48 series or Pioneer machine.

Does it get used in a dirty environment? If so, it might clean out with a couple of passes in distilled water in an ultrasonic cleaner.

I have a 48 sized machine if needed, but you'll have to send me the unit as the cleaner stays right here.

It has been living in an ordinary room environment, not particularly dirty. Keys feel normal. A few months back it got squeezed (while in the soft case) in the hinge of my brief case. Display was funny for a while but straightened out. Looked as if the it had lost connection to a few bars in the zebra strips, but after a week or so it was back to normal. I'm beginning to view it as a candidate for the parts bin. I have some application cards that supposedly will not work with a 48GX so I'll probably have to find another 48SX.

BTW: I have an HP-12C,. no manual, and an HP-11C with a 15C manual, an Casio 7000G w manual, and a TI-83 with manual, if any one is interested in horse trading.
