HP41CV Extended Function Module
Message #1 Posted by Todd Templeton on 28 May 2003, 12:25 a.m.

Greetings, All:

I'm new to this form and the museum, so maybe this is not the place for this question, but here it goes anyway.

I am a devoted disciple of the HP41CV. I bought mine in 1982 and have babied it for the past 21 years. It recently broke, but I was able to get it repaired and it is as good as new, now. Before I got the HP41CV I had a TI58, which was a piece of junk in comparison, although expensive.

Anyway, I'm looking for an Extended Function Module so I can load in a some programs that would be useful in my work (mostly base conversions). I would also like to find a Math Module for it. I've checked on eBay, but I haven't found anything, yet. I could buy a CX, but my CV is just fine -- I just need the module.

Anybody have any suggestions for me?

Wow! That was a fast reply.

I tried the classifieds first, but nothing jumped out at me as possibly what I was looking for. But, I'll go through them more carefully.

Thanks!

Todd

Actually I was suggesting that you post a "want to buy" ad.

I'd suggest buying an HP41CX

Hello, Todd;

If you can afford doing this, buy an HP41CX. It's an anhanced model, not only an HP41CV with time and X-Functions module. You can keep your beloved HP41CV and buy the modules, but I believe it's gonna be easier to find an HP41Cx instead of an X-Functions. And prices will probably justify buying a complete calculator.

About the math module: you will be able to use in any of them.

Hope you have success.

Best regards.

Hi, Luiz:

Actually, surprisingly enough, I was contacted by a fellow this morning with an X-Function module for sale who is located here in Phoenix. I also just heard from a fellow in Australia with a Math Module for sale, so I think I have everything I'm looking for.

Your point is well taken, though, and I would dearly love a CX. I would have purchased a CX when I bought my CV, but I was a starving college student at the time and couldn't come up with the additional cash. At the time, I think the CX was about twice the price of the CV. I paid $256 for in 1982 (still have the original invoice), which was a considerable sum for a college kid paying his own tuition on a minimum wage job. Since I can afford it now, I may pick up a CX some time just for giggles.

Anyway, I appreciate all the feed back from everyone.

Thank you.

Todd

You'll not regret, believe me!

Hi;

if you really love your HP41CV, you'll feel as betraying it when meeting an HP41CX! I felt like that and it took me more than a month to get back to my old fella 41C after having a CX in hands. Different tastes, I'd say.

Well, take your time. Now you have what you need. I just want to tease you a bit more: my HP41CX has an HPIL, two X-Mem modules and an X-IO connected to it (I have no math module; all I need in math I have in my HP42S). As it has the X-Functions built in, I can use all ports for other modules. Oh, yes, and I can see if it's time to shoot it off and go bed...

Success!

Luiz:

You're a hoot! I'll look out for a good deal on a CX and pick it up.

Thanks!

Todd
