I think a microwave oven with built-in alpha/beta ray surface charring would be great. And the slight increase in radioactivity of the food will help with treating stomach and colon coancer.

No need for street lights, just follow the purple glow. And all those ^&&*(%$% drivers who rubberneck or cause traffic slowdowns will get their just rewards...
