Funny noise in keys,<> hp65
Message #1 Posted by JC Serra on 9 May 2003, 11:10 a.m.

I've got an old 65 and all the keys have a lot of movement, and all of them sounds when been shaked so it seems that instead of a calc I have a maracas.

The think is, as I post before, the 4 in my 42s have a curious click when is softly pressed so I wonder if is the same problem and if somebody have any experience about this subject.

Have the 42s keys a spring between the bubble and the plastic and can it justify the sound?

Thanks

Sounds like the key springs are either broken and/or the boards are loose inside the calculator. There is also a clear plastic piece inside that keeps the keys in place. Perhaps it is missing or loose.

The keys on all the HP LED calculators have quite a bit of rattle to them. If somebody opened your machine and left out the plastic frame that backs up the keys, they will rattle mightily... but you would also be complaining mightily about their feel.

Not all of them. I had an HP-25 that had no rattle at all; the keys were nice and tight. On the other hand, an HP-67 I bought later _did_ sound like a maraca. I think this problem is exclusive to the Classic series.

Mostly the classics and the spice series make nice musical instruments. There is one style of woodstock (HP25) keyboard that likes to rattle a bit. One very astute young reader calls her dad's calculator a blick-blick from its keyboard sounds.
