LIF files
Message #1 Posted by kim on 3 May 2003, 3:09 p.m.

I'm lost, I need an intelligence transfusion.

I have a 71B, 9114B and a bunch of LIF files that I got from - amongst others - this site (and 5 original SWAP disks #1 to #5).

My challenge is that I can't figure out how to get a particular file loaded from a LIF to my 71B.

I have been able to copy files from a SWAP disk (#1) to a PC with LIFUTIL on my PC and back to a formatted floppy. I have read it on on my 9114B with my 71B. Even loaded (LEX) and RUN a couple of them (BASIC).

BUT

I have a copy of the JPC ROM (about 32K) in LIF format on a PC and would like to copy this to a floppy and - in turn - to my 71B (which has all the memory required) via my 9114B.

I think this is a challenge that must have been dealt with before. Can one of you please help....

Thanks and Best regards

Kim

I'm afraid I haven't mastered the LIF files myself but have you read Dan McDonald's article in the Articles Forum?

http://www.hpmuseum.org/cgi-sys/cgiwrap/hpmuseum/articles.cgi?read=24

I read it through once and I think I understand the concept but not well enough to pass it on myself. Dan explains the mechanics and then tells you how to use the HP LIFUTILS software to do what needs to be done.

I hope this helps.

BTW, if you are a Linux user, you can reproduce all the SwapDisks using Tony Duell's disk image files and utilities:
