REPAIRING HP-67 CARD READER
Message #1 Posted by Jon on 29 Apr 2003, 4:50 p.m.

My hp-67 card reader works fine when writing but not when reading. I have read in several places that a tantalum capacitor must be replaced. But I donīt know which one!!!. Can anybody help me to identify it?.

Thanks in advance

Jon

The cap that fails is a small blue colored dipped tantalum capacitor located near the top edge of the card reader chip. Values from 4.7 to 10uF work fine. The main thing is it needs to be small so that the case can be closed.

Earlier versions of the reader have a resistor in that position and three cylindrical silver capcitors on the board. These caps do not seem to fail very often. I'm not sure which one is the power cap and which two are the head circuit capacitors.
