Remember this: Questionable auction for 50* 39G calcs
Message #1 Posted by Mike on 6 Apr 2003, 11:09 a.m.

Remember this post about a questionable auction?

Well, the auction appears to have been cancelled for violations. It has been completely removed which is what happens when rules violations happen.

Who cares?

Simply, I don't find eBay (and its rules) that important at all.

I care to some extent as Ebay seems to provide the most access to vintage Hewlett Packard calculators. Using and collecting HP calculators has become a pleasurable hobby.

I care, but not to the extent that Mike does.

I think Mike just wanted to make us all aware of something. It could also be the case that his pointing this issue out is what got the illegal (and devious) sale pulled from eBay. Bravo for that. As for posting every shady deal offered on eBay here, I think that is a waste.

My theory is that if you see something like that, point it out to eBay, but keep us out of it. They will take care of it, and we here are aware that things like this happen.

Last but not least, if the auction was posted by a member of MoHPC, he/she might be a bit bitter that you ruined his/her auction. He/she might not have done it on purpose and you might have just made an enemy unnecessarily. That is a long shot, but better to be on the safe side, right?

I didn't ruin it

In fact, I was high bid on it. :-) I have dealt with this seller before. I'm sure it was an innocent mistake.

Probably not quite so innocent... looks like an nice attempt to reduce Ebay's cut of the fees.
