hp48sx -> hp48gx compatibility
Message #1 Posted by juergen Rodenkirchen (GER) on 12 Mar 2003, 2:21 p.m.

Hi all!

Because there are nice features on the Solve Equation Library card for the HP48sx that are not available on the HP48g (e.g. the Periodic Table of Elements, I think), I wondered if it's possible to run this card in an HP48gx. Just thought that it would be good to ask the experts in here before probably damaging the card or the machine ;-)

Thanks for your time, Juergen

All cards labeled specifically for the 48sx I have tried (which has been about 6) all worked flawlessly on the 48gx.

Hi;

there are many system-level operations that are not compatible in both models, mostly the ones related to new G-featurs and new objects defined only in the G-series. I remember that libraries created for the S-series 48 MAY crash (not dammage) if loaded in a G-series 48.

About the periodic table, does it need the card to run? Have you thought about copying and sending it from the SX to the GX by the IR link? I'm sorry I do not know the card's contents, but loading a "file" in an HP48G through the IR link will not dammage it.

Hope this helps.

There's a free version of PTLIB for the GX

Hi,

as subject indicates, HP has released a version of their Periodic Table Library for usage with the HP-48G(X). It's available at www.hpcalc.org .

BTW: Some years ago, I wrote a 1:1 replacement for PTLIB, which is *much* faster, and of course, much smaller. Also on www.hpcalc.org ;-)

Regards,

Raymond

Hi;

have a look at the HP48G Series User Guide, pages 29-20 and 29-21, under Using HP48S/SX programs with the HP48G/GX, mostly the topics dealing with cards and libraries.

Cheers.

If you want a good Periodic Table, this is the best:

http://www.hpcalc.org/hp48/science/chemistry/chemlb27.zip

I can send you a version where the Cl "solid" has been changed to "gas".

Hola, Raul; como estás?

Can you send me this "corrected" version?

My e-mail address is: lcvieira@quantica.com.br (there are so many spams and roax's comming to my e-address I'm about to change it...)

Do you know if it installs in the 49G too?

Best regards.

Hi Raul!

Sure, I'm interested in that version of the Periodic table! I'd be happy if you would send me a copy ... you can use the e-mail address above.

Just stating the obvious - Sparcom's General Chemistry Application Pac (ROM card) for the HP 48GX has the Periodic Table of the Elements (and a whole lot more chemistry stuff, e.g., dilution equations galore, which you can mix and match to get your answer).

Oops - I forgot to mention that Sparcom's General Chemistry Application Pac was originally available as an HP 48SX ROM card; so make sure you get the 48GX version or you will be back to where you started. I used to have a 48SX with the Chemistry ROM card (and the great 41CV Emulator ROM card), but don't have them now. The problem is that my 48GX Chemistry ROM card doesn't have "GX" written anywhere on the card. IIRC, the 48GX cards have an extra contact.

I know that the 41CV emulator card won't work on a GX. I have tried and it caused the GX to lose memory. Not permanently damaged the GX though.

Thank you all !!!
