How to print to HP 82240B printer for HP 41CX
Message #1 Posted by Nick Nicholas on 4 Feb 2003, 10:05 p.m.

I wasn't able to find this information from my search on the internet. Could someone clarify what infrared plug-in module and/or HP-IL module and software do I need in order to get the HP 41CX to print to a HP 82240B printer.

Is this setup unidirectional to the printer or bidirectional?

Is it possible to use such an arrangement to communicate and transfer data with a HP 48GX?

Hi;

the HP82242A is the IR module's ID for the HP41. It allows the HP41 to SEND (send only) information to the HP82240A. Any HP48 can receive the IR code sent by the HP41's 82242, but it needs specific software named INPRT. INPRT is availble in two versions, one for the HP48S/SX and another for the HP48G/G+/GX. The program converts received codes into an ASCII string that can be saved, printed or treated as an ordinary string-type object.

Unfortunately this module is unidirectional.

Hope this helps.

The 82242A I/R plug-in module is required for the 41 machines to print to a 82240A/B printer.

It is unidirectional only :(

When the only module in your 41 toolbox is a 82242A, the 41 is functionally the same as a 42S. Please don't take me to task for the very poor comparison.

Hi;

I was just a bit lucky... Be sure I started a few minutes before you. ;-)

Best regards, Randy.

The IR module is rather rare and pricey when you can find one...

The 82240 printer's interface is unidirectional. The transmitting device has to "pace" long data streams to allow the printer to keep up. For more information see http://www.hpcalc.org/details.php?id=4742

If you don't have the 82242A IR module for the 41, but do have some way of transmitting the data to the 48's RS-232 serial port (by wire, that is), then you should be able to use the 48 to relay the data to the printer. That's the method I use to print to the 82240 from the 49G, which also lacks IR.

Regards,
James
