HP-29C
Message #1 Posted by Larry Smith on 17 Jan 2003, 3:50 p.m.

My HP-29C went dead recently. When turned on all the LED segments would flash dimly, with just one digit near the right end being a somewhat brighter 0. Randy Sloyer noted that this often indicates a blown battery pack, but I swapped packs with my HP-25 and the 25 is happy with both of them. He recommended David Smith as someone able to repair woodstocks. Anyone here know how I can get in touch with him?

I've often had those same symptoms with my HP-21 and 25's. In all cases it was the battery pack, or battery connection. Sometimes just applying finger pressure to the outside of the pack would fix the problem. I think you have a battery problem, either with a bad pack or a bad connection.

If you feel comfortable doing it, I'd try powering it up from a regulated power supply. Or if you don't mind a bit of damage, carefully cut open the battery pack and try a new pair of AAs.

Good Luck!

Larry
