HP 42-S Screen repair?
Message #1 Posted by John on 18 Oct 2002, 2:34 p.m.

I have an HP 42-S that got dropped, and the screen cracked and no longer displays. Does anyone know how to repair/replace such a thing? It's a great calculator, shame to lose it!

Thanks, -John

Does HP still have service replacement on the 42S?

If they do, it may cost you.

I called them, and they said they stopped servicing the 42s in 2000. (It was discontinued mid 90s).

They said there's no replacements, and no trade-ins at this time... :(

Is there any market in broken hp calculators (for parts?) I also have both full manuals, which may be worth something...

All the HP service repair units were sold a while ago (that made for quite a story here for a while).

I got one of them - but the came minus the manual, so at least I would be interested in your manuals!

I have replacement LCD's.

Send me an email to the link in my name above with "42S LCD" in the subject field.

I've fixed 42s displays using 17BII displays as replacements. Now that that model is no longer generally available, that might be a bit harder.

But I wrote up complete (I think) directions, and they're available elsewhere under "Repairs" (or some such) on this MoHPC web site.

Good luck, and feel free to contact me if you've any questions.
