HP49 O.S. - What's new about it?

Hi;

I read a post a few days ago mentioning some guys in German were writing their own version of an O.S. for the HP49G and it would probably contain emulators for other HP machines. This subject was mentioned in the time HrastProgrammer was working with the HP42S simulator to run in an HP49G.

My HP49G is running a 1.19-5 O.S. version. It's an Indonesian, serial # ID9320xxxx.

What is the newest version and where can I download it from? As I saw the HPCC photos (I forgot to mention: thank you, Iqbal!) the HP49G was present among the other titans: HP9100, HP41 (what a magnificent photo with two HP41, some IL devices and two classics: HP67 and HP65, right?). As it's still "alive", let's keep it alive! In great shape, of course.

I want to know if there is any page or site related to it. I know about the www.hpcalc.org because it's easy to remember, and Dave also keeps many links in here, too. I also read that the ACO team leaders for the HP49 could be contacted by their e-addresses. I must dig in my hard-disk so I can find them. Would anybody post them again, please?

Other subject: "hidden" photographs.

A few days ago, someone in here also mentioned that one of the Jean-Ives photographs could be seen by entering in the tests browser ([ON] [D]) and pressing [J] key. To get back and restart the machine, press [ON] again.

I tried all keys and got to this: ([E] and [Q] are already mentioned as test keys)

J - Jean-Ives Avenard (AKA Gherkin)

V - VGER HARD with a modified  HP48 keyboard

Although I am unable to view that photograph, and so can't be certain, it sounds like it's a picture of my 'club stand' on Saturday. IIRC, the items on it were : HP41CV + hacked Eramco RSU. HP41CX + card reader (both of those with IL modules and some other ROMs). HP71B with card reader, HPIL module, ROMs. HP9100B. HP65. HP67. The IL units are : HP3421 Data aquisition/control unit (the big unit at the bottom). HP9114B disk drive. HP82161 tape drive. HP82162 thermal printer. Also on the stand for part of the time (although maybe not very visible) was the prototype 'barcode blinker' -- an interface to connect a PC printer port to an HP41 wand to allow downloading programs and data without HPIL. I didn't bring the 9100B back on Sunday, but I did have most of the other items with me. All work (AFAIK), many of them still get considerable use.

you're right; I did not describe it that way, because I thought people would like to see it.

About your RAM pack for the HP41: how "deep" is it? Have the schematics? Does it work like the Extended Memory? I read about it in 1985, if I am not wrong.

Congratulations! As some other people (I congrat them, too), you have a big HP "family" at home.

One other HP toy that was probably floating around that stand (in a grey case?) was my LogicDart. A great little tool for finding logic problems... Anyway, to answer the questions... The RAM box in the photo contains 8K RAM, 8K EPROM (MLDL-OS and DavidAssembler). I have another box that I haven't hacked that's RAM only -- 16K of it. I do have the Eramco RSU EPROMs, which let you use these boxes to store Focal programs, etc. It's a bit like a large extended memory. But as I have (and use ) the disk drive, I don't have much use for this facility, I'd rather put the programs on disk. I use these RAM boxes in order to program in M-code, of course. I only took a small part of my 'collection' (it's not really a collection -- I use these machines a lot) to the conference. I've got more -- including a lot more desktop machines. I don't think I could have brought everything along....

Is HrastProgrammer still working on HP-42 emulator? Is this project finished or cancelled? An HP-42 emulator seems very interesting to me ...

Hrast finished his work (a really good one!). Have a look at: http://hrastprogrammer.tripod.com/

I installed HP41X and HP42X on some of my 48s and 49s: best setup (to me) is on a 1280kb 48G with double speed module.

Take a ride on the demo version and then buy the complete version: he deserves it.

First: The HP42X emulator is truly a great piece of software, especially with the new additions of LOAD/SAVE commands (for the first time in history you can save you HP42-programs!) and the SLOW mode ("true to the real HP42S" screen update emulation) this is something a HP42S fan should not be without.

Second: "48G with double speed module" - is it possible to overclock the HP48? Where can I find more info on this?

Erik, I share your feelings about HP42X. Did you try HP41X too?

I have just finished HP-42X – it now contains all features I initially planned for it: Port memory, SAVE/LOAD, etc. Details are on my homepage … All registered users will get the maintenance release for free, don’t worry if it took some time to send it – I am just very busy at the moment doing some work in my own company :-)

I would like to thank to all of you who have purchased HP-41X or HP-42X – thanks to you I have been able to purchase the new Borland Delphi 7 Professional …

I really would like to see which calculators will be emulated (and how they will be emulated) …
