Message #1 Posted by David Barnes on 18 Sept 2002, 9:15 a.m.

I recently uncovered my HP15C after many years and many years of use getting my BSEE. Can someone tell me what type (voltage/size) batteries are used in the 15C??? I replaced with the ones I thought were correct, but no go.... -david

Same as used in HP-12C and many other recent HP calculators: silver oxide 1.55V Energizer #357 or alkaline #A76 (silver oxide lasts longer). Or see more complete list of equivalents under "Batteries and chargers" at the HP Museum.

If you have the correct batteries installed in the proper direction, consider the unit may need a hard reset. Sometimes when the unit has has been at zero voltage for a time, they don't want to wake up.

The Hp suggestion is to take a small short piece of wire and lifting the plastic flaps, short the battery stack out with the wire for just a brief instant. This drops the voltage to zero and allows it rise slower than if you shoved the cells in. Yes, it sounds crazy, but it works.
