I am not sure at all, but since I do have a few 1500 mAh AA cells, 500 mAh in N size doesn't seem that unreal to me... At least the energy density looks similar. They may be NiMH...

Yes, you can get over 1800 mAH in a AA NiMHcell. The cells in a 41C rechargeable pack are 1/N... 75-80 maH in NiCad, 150 maH in NiMH. The 1/3AAA mentioned before are a LOT smaller than the 1/2N size (remember volume and charge density go down with the square of the diamter). 50maH in Nicad is about it. I have not seen NiMH cells in that size (or looked for them either).
