Does anyone remember......
Message #1 Posted by Michael Meyer on 4 Aug 2002, 12:40 a.m.

Hi.

Does anyone remember if someone once posted a source of replacement L.E.D. modules for the 35 series calculator? I seem to remember seeing here once that you could actually buy replacements from some electronics source. Or maybe I need some Thorazine...

Thanks

Take two thorazine and call me in the morning. Somebody had some for sale at one time, but they went fast. Only replacements seem to be from another machine.

There are two types of modules. Those with silver leads and those with gold. Don't mix them because the digits are slightly different sizes. The modules are also graded in intensity by a letter... typically "I" - "L". Try to keep within a letter or two of the original.

Thanks.

That explains why the ones I canibalized from a 35 are dimmer in the 55 I placed them in. Still, I had to restore the 55. Someday I'll find a non-functional 35 series that I can restore my previous 35. Or something.

The purists out there replace all three LED modules at a time from a single machine. But since I only try to scrap out machines that have problems that can never be fixed, I tend to use LEDs from machines that already had a dead segment in one module. Beggars can't be choosers. Just match the color of the LED lead frames and try to get the display intensity selection letter close. I cant tell the difference in a single letter step. Two letters off and most other people can't tell. Three gets noticeable.
